Burnout: Prevention

Burnout: Prevention

I was in my ethics class the other day and one of my classmates presented a chapter about ethical techniques in mental health professions. One of her slides was this one, it was concerning prevention of a person from going through burnout. I found it interesting because I considered the above points to be noteworthy not just for mental health professionals, but for teachers. Read the above points and let me know what you think :)

  1. I think the points go hand in hand. Burnout is burnout no mater what profession your talking about. I think social support in the workplace and knowing your personal strengths are two of the more important points on the slide, but they are all very important.

  2. Those are really good points. The two points that are talking about positive feedback and social support in workplace, I feel can go hand in hand with teaching. In most cases, we won't be the only teacher at a school. I think it's important to give positive feed back to our fellow teachers as well as ask for some positive feedback to know what we have done well. Sometimes it's easy to think our lesson or program went really well, when in reality, it wasn't.
Support in the workplace is also important especially in teaching. When teaching, we need to remember to give support to each other. We need to be there for each other and give support and offer help to our fellow teachers.
    These were all great points!

  3. Of course they are all great but I think a really important one would be the "social support in the worksplace". Man if you don't have your principal or school board or even just a colleague on your side, it sure makes the workplace tough. Especially for long periods of time. My father is a prime example of this in that when he was principal there was some major disagreements with the school board the resulted in him leaving the school. Overall it made it hard on all the teachers and faculty. workplace support is very important to me!

  5. Yes, this are very good points that prevent a person from burnout. Giving positive feedback to each other would be a great thing for teachers. Sometimes teachers need feedback from other teachers, because they are helpful. Also I think is very important to have social support in the workplace.
